Is Hemp derrived Δ 9-THC legal?

Is Delta 9 THC Legal?

As of this writing, hemp-derived Delta 9-THC is legal in the United states. After the 2018 Farm Bill was passed, it legalized all derivatives, cannabinoids, extracts, and isomers derived from hemp.

There is no concentration limit for CBD or Delta 8, there is for Delta 9 THC. You may legally purchase products that contain 0.3% or less of Delta 9 concentrations on a dry weight basis. If you are buying Delta 9 in your home state and plan to leave, rest assured because hemp-derived Delta-9 is legal in every state.

You must be 21 years old or older to purchase hemp products in most of the United states.

What’s Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is a cannabinoid molecule derived from marijuana and hemp plants. Hemp is a complex plant with over 113 different cannabinoids. However, the most sought after cannabinoids are these three major compounds:

  • Delta-9 THC
  • Delta-8 THC
  • CBD

What’s the Difference Between Delta-8 and Delta-9?

Delta 8 and Delta 9 are both naturally occurring compounds located in hemp and marijuana. It may seem surprising, but Delta 9 is more prominent in hemp than Delta 8. These cannabinoids have a similar chemical makeup but have one difference in their molecular structure.

We don’t want to bore you, so we will keep it quick. Delta 9 and Delta 8 both have a double bond, but the location of this bond separates them. Delta 9 has a double bond located on the 9th carbon chain, and Delta 8 has a double bond located on the 8th carbon chain. As a result, when these cannabinoids bind to your cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) they produce different effects.

We wanted to add, some people may refer to Delta-8 and Delta-9 as “weed,” but we wanted to clarify that unless cannabinoids derive from marijuana or exceed the legal Delta-9 concentration, they cannot be categorized as marijuana.

What Are the Effects of Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 THC affects everyone differently. Some may thoroughly enjoy the sensations that Delta 9 may bring, while others desire a more mellow experience. There is no guarantee in how Delta 9 affects you, but consuming the right dose, knowing your tolerance, and choosing the correct environment may result in an enjoyable experience. Here are some common effects after consumption of Delta-9:

  • Euphoria
  • Energized
  • Uplifted
  • Comfort

If you have a low tolerance or are new to hemp, we recommend consuming a small amount. We know edibles may taste delicious, but overeating may lead to an unideal situation. Lastly, take the extra time and make certain your environment feels safe and comfortable.

Is Delta 9 Safe?

Like anything, if you are safe and enjoy Delta 9 responsibly, there should be no cause for concern. If you plan to do errands that day, make sure to do it before taking Delta-9 because you cannot drive or operate heavy machinery after consuming Delta 9 or other forms of THC.

To encourage the experience you are hoping for, focus on moderation. Starting with a small dose will allow you to scope out where your tolerance lies while avoiding any “overwhelming” feelings.

If you feel that you consumed too much, have your mind focus on something else. We recommend watching a movie, listening to music, or being creative. Remember, these effects are temporary, and we hope your experience is everything you imagined and more.
